Frequently Asked Sewer Questions

Q: Do roots make their way through the sewer pipe?
A: Not exactly. The roots are extremely fine and small in size when they start looking for water to survive. The water running through your main sewer line seeps out of the pipe through the joints that connects your sewer line together. The sewage water has nutrients that are healthy for the growth of the tree roots. These roots feed on the sewage water and start to make their way through the empty space in the joints of the sewer line. It takes years for the roots to get strong enough to actually break the sewer line.

Q: Is it a good idea to use chemicals before calling a sewer and drain company?
A: This is not recommended, especially if you intend to call a sewer and drain company anyways. This is because the chemicals are harmful and may make it harder for a sewer and drain mechanic to unclog your line.
